Most of my followers have come over by way of the original Bible Study group over at
’s Substack, so you probably know what’s going on, but for other folks who find us organically, you can still jump in.In the latter part of last year, Caroline hosted discussions on Zoom and on her Substack as women from around the world read through the New Testament along with The Bible Recap, which provides a daily reading schedule, short daily podcasts “recapping” the day’s readings, and other ways to get into the Word.
Caroline is now leading a book club in a similar format, currently reading “Mere Christianity”, which you should definitely check out! Some of us have also continued on with the Old Testament, beginning on January 1st, and with Caroline’s blessing this will be the new home for OT discussion posts. (Although we will still have robust discussion over at Problematic, which you should really check out!)
We are going to be jumping into these posts at week 7, which I’ll post later today, but going forward, weekly posts will be on Sundays.
It’s not too late to jump into the Bible Recap for the year. You can find it over on the Bible App, or you can click here for the full reading plan. You can always just start right where we are, without worrying about “catching up,” and catch Genesis, Job, and most of Exodus on the next go-round. If you do want to catch up, I recommend prioritizing the current readings, and adding older ones if you have time, that way you’re not getting more behind trying to catch up. The Bible will always be here!
If you’re just starting, I highly recommend you check out the “Start” page at The Bible Recap to understand how this works, and to find all relevant links, videos, and everything else.
A little housekeeping
To begin with, at least, I’ll do weekly posts, and each post will have a comment for each day of reading that week, to host questions and discussion about those readings. I’m considering a post for each day to make daily comments easier to find, but we are going to try this first and see how it goes! I’m always down to adjust.
One thing to note is that I have no paywall, which means that there’s not an option for making our discussions private. We can decide collectively if we need to address that with maybe a nominal fee to create a private container for discussion, but I’m also looking to see if there’s a way to give free subscriptions for those who want to participate in good faith.
There will likely be more housekeeping in subsequent posts, but I don’t want to wait any longer to get the discussion going so awayyyyy we go!!
A closing prayer
Our Father,
God, I am in awe of you. You show up in unexpected places to remind me that You are everywhere. It is a joy to worship you.
Please, Father, send us your Holy Spirit to guide our discussions, illuminate your Word, and turn our hearts ever in your direction. Bless us with wisdom, discernment, and focus as we go through your Word together, as we build friendships and sisterhood as a part of your church.
You’re with us, and we are watching and waiting and listening for You. Show mercy upon your children, Abba, and grant us peace. Blessed be your Holy Name.
In the name of Jesus Christ,
Amen
P.S.
I know there are several of us doing different reading programs right now. While I’m going to use the TBR timeline, others are welcome to discuss the OT with us, even if you’re in a different place. You can start a new comment thread under this post, or hop on another thread if you see something relevant you want to chime in with.
