Folks, I’ve been in a bit of survival mode and missed a week again! But I’m back and posting week 17 in the Bible Recap reading plan. For context about this study and important info, if you haven’t already read it, check out my explanatory post.
Before I get to the week’s readings, I want to talk about this format, and what we think of it. I think there is a 3-fold reason (in addition to the fact that comments on Substack are not easy to navigate on mobile) there’s less engagement with these, so I want to hear your thoughts, and see if there’s anything I can do to make it more engaging.
I think the challenges are:
It can be harder to find things to talk about each day during parts of the OT where it can be a bit repetitive or more historical, with fewer discussion points, fewer things that are unclear.
We aren’t also meeting to discuss, to keep the conversation going and to connect.
There’s less engagement, so there’s less discussion when you might have a comment.
And my response to this is, first of all, I’ll keep doing these posts until we finish the OT because it is keeping ME on track, and there are some who are using this. When we start the NT again, I think it will likely be back over at
God Talk, and it will probably pick up steam again over there, and I don’t want us to lose continuity. But I am wondering if there’s anything I, personally, could do to facilitate more conversation, if anyone is feeling like they’re missing the focused discussion. One thing I think I’ll do for now is leave only one comment thread for thoughts on the reading, and one for prayer requests, so that maybe the conversation we do have will be easier to find. Please don’t hesitate to share your feedback. I myself feel less engaged with this discussion in particular, although there’s still lots of wonderful discussion going on in our little corner of the internet.
If you have an ideas about ways to increase the value of this little effort, to make it easier to stay connected and on track, please comment! Maybe we should touch on these over at
(my podcast with ) or maybe we should refresh the idea of some discussion Zoom calls where we can meet monthly…you get the idea. I’m open!Alright, now back to your regularly scheduled programming:
This week, the readings are below, plus a prayer request thread, an engagement suggestion thread, and a general comment thread.
Monday, April 22, Day 113: 1 Chronicles 1-2
Tuesday, April 23, Day 114: Psalms 43-45, 49, 84-85, 87
Wednesday, April 24, Day 115: 1 Chronicles 3-5
Thursday, April 25, Day 116: Psalms 73, 77-78
Friday, April 26, Day 117: 1 Chronicles 6
Saturday, April 27, Day 118: Psalms 81, 88, 92-93
Sunday, April 28, Day 119: 1 Chronicles 7-10
Remember, the study started on a Monday, so for the ease of keeping weeks in line with TBR, the readings will continue be presented in a Monday-Sunday format, although I added an extra Sunday since we missed several days. Feel free to comment on a thread when you’re ready, even if you’re in an earlier timezone (I’m on Pacific time in California.)
You can click each day above to find the discussion thread in the comments.
In closing
It’s ok that many of these chapters are sort of hard to discuss. Reading them is enough, and The Bible Recap’s related content has been helping me to keep my eye on God during the tougher books. But we are here to talk about it if you want or need.
Keep it loving, and don’t hesitate to ask tough questions. That’s what we’re doing here.
P.S.
I know there are several of us doing different reading programs right now. While I’m going to use the TBR timeline, others are welcome to discuss the OT with us, even if you’re in a different place. You can start a new comment thread under this post, or hop on another thread if you see something relevant you want to chime in with.
