Still just plodding along through Numbers…..no meaningful insights to share……there is a lot of repetition so if anything it reaffirms the structure needed to keep everything on track for God. Reminds me of having to give children explicit instruction on how to do something
Today’s reading touched on how much the Israelites needed reminders all the time of God. I mean they’re in very harsh conditions, but there were these continuous reminders to them. I guess that has been evident in the readings ( in the Old Testament), that people are very easy to forget, or doubt. This makes me think about my life and how I shouldn’t expect that people get what I get or see what I see in God or the Bible and that sometimes gentle reminders are needed. Or in the case of Israelites, not so gentle!
I’m catching up from being about a week behind. I loved reading Psalm 90 today. I needed some poetry after all the instructions in Numbers. I have no recollection of ever reading Numbers before and continue to be glad to be doing it, even if I don’t understand it or can feel like it’s a slog on certain days.
I have been pretty behind and just caught up to Friday, yesterday. Will have to finish catching up today but I’m with you, for me it is kind of hard to keep trudging along, but I do find that there is a spiritual benefit to doing the reading even when it’s just lists of laws or names. I’m not sure what that is.
Something I took note of today was 12:3 where Moses is called out as the "humblest" or "meekest" man on he face of the earth. Just struck me because I've been contemplating humility quite a bit this lent. I feel like this is the reason God was able to use Moses so much during this period because he was so humble and not eager to claim the glory. I know he does show some pride later (hitting the rock or something) but up to now, his humility allows him to truly be the one God speaks to face to face.

It is definitely like that. Yeah there’s not a lot of stuff that feels super profound or hard to get haha. But we are in the word!

Moses is so incredibly humble - and how he defends the people and literally begs for their lives also says a lot about his character
